The Oasis Club: A valuable resource for the OA community

These are challenging times for all of us. My OA program is helping me to stay sane and safe through all of this. However I know that “This Too Shall Pass” and when it does, it will be important to the community to have a place to reconnect in a safe environment.

I was lucky enough to be around at the start of the Oasis Club in the early 80’s. It was a bold move by a few members to provide a safe haven for meetings and fellowship. It is now over 35 years old and it is still a place where members can join together and progress in their own personal recovery.

Even though the club doors have been closed because of the Covid19 virus, it is important that we keep it going so that we can reopen when the time is right. The Oasis Club board is working to maintain the club so that as soon as it is possible, the doors will reopen.

When the club is open:

  1. It is a great place to attend a meeting
  2. It is a great place to start a new meeting
  3. It is open 24 hours a day to members as they had their own key
  4. It is a great place and safe place to work on the steps with a sponsee
  5. It is a great place for fellowship on game nights
  6. It is a great place to hold workshops
  7. It is a place to buy literature
  8. It is a place to be able to relax in from all the problems we face in life

While the club is closed for now, we do need help from everyone to pay the bills. Unfortunately rent, utilities, insurance and other expenses have not stopped. The board of The Oasis Club is asking for your help.

First, we hope that you will become a member of the club or renew your membership. Second, we ask you to make a donation if you can, in the amount you would have put in the basket to keep the club going in these hard times. Not only will the money be used for club maintenance but also to send donations to Intergroup, Region 3 and the World Service Office of OA.

As my first sponsor told me: the most important word of the first step is WE. Together we can keep the Oasis Club, Region 3, Intergroup and the World Service Office going through our contributions. Contributions can be made through OAHouston.org

Stay safe and take care of yourselves.

Regards, Joe A.
